In 1938, King Abdulaziz moved from his former home in the city to a grand square building he had commissioned—Murabba Palace (Qasr Murabba). Built in the traditional Najdi style, the palace features mudbrick walls reinforced with straw, decorative plasterwork, and ceilings made from wooden beams and palm branches. It served as both his residence and workplace until his death in 1953.

The palace has two floors. The ground floor has 16 rooms that were used by Royal Cabinet members and assistants for day-to-day affairs.
